In which my books take over the living room floor

Unpacked books

This is what happens when I decide that, after unpacking my books but before shelving them, I ought to rethink my entire organizational system.

I kind of like the effect, actually. Except for the whole “can’t walk across the living room” thing.

I doubt these photos will win any book pile contests at LibraryThing, but I wanted to record the process for posterity anyway.

  1. Hey, I see the catalog for Kelly’s illustrated Russian books exhibit!

    Indeed it is!

I’m actually running out of shelf space at home for my books, and was just thinking this weekend that I need to do some weeding.
As a result, my copy of the Norton Anthology of Poetry, which I immediately recognized on top of one of your piles, is currently doing double duty by raising the level of my teeny tiny personal fan which, by virtue of sitting on the Norton Anthology, now blows airs onto my face, instead of kind of into the floor.
Yay for Stitch ‘n’ Bitch Nation!

Hey, I have that Russell Edson book! Or I did before it disappeared somewhere in my last three moves. I tend to organize books according to how I feel about them the day I unpack… I’m sure your system (whatever it ends up being) works JUST as well. Glad to see you’re settling in, hope your move went smoothly.

Book piles are just the thing for propping up small fans. And I love seeing what books people recognize out of the chaos!

Hey, that looks like my floor a little over a month ago!
And yes, I chose to reorganize too. It’s just too tempting when the shelves are all empty and the books aren’t in place yet.

I should have taken a photo of my book & photocopy stacks after I finished the draft of my book. It was something to behold…Books everywhere….
