Pictures from my walk home
I had my camera with me yesterday, and the light was so irresistible as I walked home that I kept stopping to take pictures.
There's a little cluster of milkweed growing near my shortcut off campus, and the seeds have started coming loose.
Some of the trees are turning red. This one seems to be turning from the inside out.
I'm not sure what kind of tree this is, but I love the yellow berries.
The light was hitting the trees at just the right angle. I've always loved this time of day.
Even rust-stained concrete under the highway looks completely different.
Tree is most likely a crab apple. If you google “golden hornet” you can see some similar ones. You can do a lot of interesting cooking with crab apples, they really just need to be cooked with some kind of sweetener, so if you’re bored… (there were an awful lot of these around when I was growing up).
Interesting. I’d always thought of crab apples as being bigger and redder than that — my grandparents had a bunch of crab apple trees of a different variety behind their house when I was a kid. I’ll have to see if anyone on campus ever bothers to harvest the fruits.
Update: I think the crabapple-looking thing is actually a vine of some kind — I’ve noticed it growing in a bunch of other places. I’ll have to find a plant guide and look it up.
