This is a swatch of a pattern called "Eccentric Zigzag" or "Scroll Lace," which I think I’m going to use for a shawl, or at least for a few sections of a shawl. Except it’ll be in a much finer yarn, and purple.

I think the urge for pattern knitting is in the air. I just bought a luscious garnet ball of wool-cotton to practice some new stitches with. (I have vague ambitions toward a dressy tank top.) After laboring over a cabled sweater for my Dad in boring oatmeal, I will deserve the reward! 🙂
